Conservation

We pride ourselves on offering a high standard of workmanship while understanding the commercial realities of delivering a viable and usable heritage scheme.

  • Conservation Principles

Modern conservation requires thorough knowledge of what makes a site or building important, and we work collaboratively with owners and authorities to find the right approach. We know that the best way to save a building is to find a new use for it; we help clients give a building new life. We understand conservation principles, and work with all parties to find a reasonable and flexible approach to restoration.

  • Supply Chain

Because the materials and construction techniques used in the past are so different from those used today, a building’s conservation and repair need to be handled by specialists who have trained in this field. We keep a database of suitable experienced and competent sub-contractors, consultants and tradesmen for our pre-1919 building work.

  • Problem solving

We are ideally placed to help all stakeholders find the best way to balance modern requirements with the need for preservation. For example, we will aim to improve energy efficiency in a way that doesn’t harm the special interest of a historic building, and beyond the standards recommended in the Approved Documents.
